A Love Story Truly Meant to Be

On May 2, 1993, Cassandra Sharon Rivett was born in London, ON. She spent her early years in Dungannon with her father Duane, her mother Nancy, and her two older brothers, Wesley and Calvin.

Just 3 years and 59 days later, on June 30th, 1996, Preston Dean Jamieson entered the world in Guysborough, NS with his father Dean, his mother Kim, and older siblings Palmer and Paige.

Though they grew up in different parts of the country, Cassandra and Preston had surprisingly similar childhoods, filled with sports, family time, and cherished memories. Cassandra could often be found playing games, working hard, and spending time with loved ones. Preston was equally busy with cadets, fishing trips with his dad, and cooking alongside his mom.

As they began to navigate adulthood, their paths unknowingly began to cross. Between 2014 and 2020, Cassandra and Preston both worked in Fort St. John, BC and years later, she and Preston would laugh at the number of places they had both visited without ever meeting.

In May 2021, Preston graduated from university and moved to Southwestern Ontario. It was a bittersweet moment, saying goodbye to his home community and beginning a new chapter far from family, friends, and the world known to him.

On April 24, 2021, Cassandra received a phone call that changed everything: her kidneys were failing. This phone call led to a long and difficult journey filled with hospital stays, dialysis, medication side effects, dietary restrictions, and uncertainty. Cassandra showed incredible strength and resilience throughout this journey, fighting until she received a life-saving gift from a dear family friend, neighbour, and colleague – a living donor kidney transplant.

While Cassandra adjusted to life post-transplant with her beloved Olivia and Ozzie Bear, and Preston settled into his new home in Dungannon, spending his free time with his beautiful dog Luna, fate continued to work in the background.

On April 24, 2023, those separate worlds finally collided – right outside Cassandra’s childhood home, of all places. Both out walking their fur babies, Cassandra in her Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, they met for the first time. The next day, they connected online and planned their first official “puppy play date.”From that moment on, they were nearly inseparable.

That summer, Preston joined Cassandra on a trip to Washington, D.C., for a conference focused on kidney disease, a personal and emotional experience that only strengthened their connection. By August 2023, just four months after their first date, they confidently moved in together. As they say, when you know, you know.

Together, they’ve built a life full of joy, comfort, and laughter. Whether they’re cooking and cleaning together, hosting game nights, walking their fur babies, or discovering new coffee shops, they’ve found love and appreciation in the everyday moments.

In spring 2025, Preston planned the most unforgettable Easter egg hunt, leading to a note asking Cassandra to marry him, the most beautiful engagement ring, and the easiest yes Cassandra has ever said.

On April 24, 2026, three years after the day their worlds came together, we invite you to celebrate with us as Cassandra and Preston begin their next chapter as husband and wife.
